Open Campus – Creating Safe and Friendly Public Green Spaces
Early in the morning, you can see community residents near National Taiwan Normal University walking and doing morning exercises on campus, stretching their bodies while enjoying the tranquility of the morning.
The university has long been committed to practicing social responsibility, actively promoting the concept of “school community integration and community schooling.” It has established the “National Taiwan Normal University Campus Open Declaration,” providing the public with free access to open spaces and green areas, sharing a friendly and safe environment with local residents. The campus completely prohibits the entry of motor vehicles, sets up pedestrian-only pathways, and allows pet owners to bring their pets along, enabling more people to comfortably enjoy the green spaces. Research shows that park green areas have self-purifying capabilities, effectively reducing air pollution, noise, and the heat island effect, while also enhancing public well-being.
The facilities on campus, such as sports fields, gardens, lawns, and artificial wetlands, function like urban parks, becoming important leisure spaces for residents. Local community members can freely enter the campus to use the green areas, sports facilities, drinking fountains, and restrooms. During dawn and dusk, it is common to see various groups engaging in activities such as dance, martial arts, and yoga in the open spaces and green areas of the campus, collectively promoting sports and healthy living, showcasing a beautiful scene of harmony and mutual prosperity between the campus and the community.
