President's Message

In 2019, the National Taiwan Normal University established the “Sustainable Development Committee” and set up the “Sustainable Development Office” to promote university-wide sustainable development goals and specific implementation plans. With the spirit of “taking from society and giving back to society,” the university continues cultivating talent and conducting research and development, fulfilling its social responsibilities.

Since 2021, the Sustainable Development Office has published annual sustainability reports for 2021, 2022, and 2023, showcasing the university’s achievements in implementing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, NTNU has committed to carbon neutrality, aiming to “reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve complete carbon neutrality by 2048,” actively responding to global climate change. The university aligns with the government’s 2050 net-zero emissions policy to implement strategies for transforming campus life into a net-zero green lifestyle, promoting carbon reduction action plans to achieve carbon neutrality.

To continuously improve its sustainable development strategies and actions, NTNU actively participates in global sustainability assessment mechanisms, such as the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) established by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The university is registered among over 1,000 academic institutions worldwide and has received a gold rating. Furthermore, in the QS-ESG sustainability rankings, NTNU ranked third in Taiwan in 2022 and 2023, and in 2022, it was ranked among the top 100 globally for its social impact in education, achieving first place in Taiwan.

National Taiwan Normal University will use the indicators and connotations of sustainable development goals as guidelines to continuously practice sustainable governance in university administration from various aspects such as school governance, teaching and research, student life, and social services. The university aims to expand regional and global partnerships and deepen its social responsibility and impact. Additionally, through annual self-assessments and improvements, the university will publish reports on sustainable development and social responsibility and participate in various international university rankings to enhance its global competitiveness and fulfill its social responsibilities.
